Liquid Engines.com has raised $5.5 million in a third tranche of Series C funding a little more than a year after some of the same investors put $4 million in the company coffers. Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Liquid Engines has less than twenty customers currently using its tax management software, Spertell said. Liquid Engines sells its software either as a hosted service or through a traditional licensed model. Around 70% of the company’s customers use the hosted service with the remaining 30% preferring to install the software behind corporate firewalls.

Motionbox seals $4.2M Series A round and adds its name to a long list of venture-backed video sharing startups. The company closed its Series A round recently, thanks to a syndicate of investors including Canaan Partners, SAS Investors and Japan-based Itochu Corp. New York-based Motionbox has developed a video sharing service designed to help consumers easily sift through video to find and share specific moments in a digital video. The company’s technology includes tagging features, editing capabilities and tools to create mash-ups.

OrderMotion Inc. a provider of on-demand order transaction software for direct marketers, has raised $8.5 million in a Series B round of financing, according to a company press release. The round was led by Updata Partners, with participation from previous investor Capital Resource Partners. OrderMotion was spun out from Capital Resource Partners’ portfolio company CommercialWare Inc. when the Natick, Mass.-based CommercialWare was acquired in February by Datavantage Corp. for $13.2 million. OrderMotion software has been used by over 300 brands including GoldSpeed.com, Ronco Inventions, Sundance Spas Inc., e-Diamonds and Lacrosse Footwear Inc., according to a company statement.

Serendipity Technologies Inc., a provider of enterprise infrastructure software, has received $5.1 million in a Series A round of funding. The funding was led by Genesis Partners and included participation from Index Ventures, as well as individual participation by Shlomo Kramer, co-founder of Checkpoint Software Technologies Ltd. According to a company statement, the proceeds from the funding will be used to further Serendipity’s Enterprise 2.0 software offering, which is designed to harness advanced Internet technology to solve business needs.

Placemark Investments Inc., an overlay manager for the investment industry, has raised $10 million in new venture capital. IDG Ventures Boston led the deal, and was joined by return backers Ascent Venture Partners, North Hill Ventures and RBC Technology Ventures. Placemark has offices in both Dallas and Wellesley , Massachusetts.

Sennari Inc., a Cupertino, Calif.-based provider of provider of customer loyalty solutions for mobile entertainment providers, has raised $10 million in Series C funding. Mayfield led the deal, and was joined by return backers UV Partners, Blacksmith Capital and Novak Biddle Venture Partners.

Mobixell Networks, a Wellesley, Mass.based provider of multimedia technologies and business solutions for mobile operators, service and content providers, has raised $8 million in new VC funding. Intel Capital led the deal, and was joined by return backers Apax Partners, TempoPark fund and CTI Capital. Mobixell has raised $23 million in total VC funding since its 2000 inception.

Medium Inc., a Boulder, Colo.-based communications software startup, has raised $5.275 million in Series A funding from Spark Capital and Appian Ventures.

Handmark Inc., a Kansas City-based provider of mobile content solutions, has raised $5 million in Series B funding. Motorola Ventures led the deal, and was joined by return backers Apax Partners, Borealis Ventures, Village Ventures and Hanna Capital Management.

Instajob Inc., an Austin, Texas-based developer of job recruitment software, has raised $2 million in Series A funding, according to a regulatory filing. Sevin Rosen Funds and Rho Ventures participated.
