Internet and Software Deals of the Day

Yelp Inc., a San Francisco-based provider of localized social networking and directory services, has raised $10 million in second-round funding from Benchmark Capital. It raised $5 million last year in a Series A round led by Bessemer Venture Partners.

Wyplay SAS, a France-based developer of “all-in-one” home entertainment boxes, has raised €4 million from Sofinnova Partners.

Zannel Inc., a Menlo Park, Calif.-based mobile media startup, has raised $6 million in Series A funding co-led by U.S. Venture Partners and Palomar Ventures.

B5Media Inc., a Toronto-based blogging network, has raised US$2 million in VC funding from Brightspark Ventures and JLA Ventures.

CityVoter Inc., a Cambridge, Mass.-based developer of online city guides for media companies, has raised $1.1 million in Series A funding led by Tudor Ventures.

General Atlantic is among the private equity firms in talks to acquire listed HR software provider Northgate Information Solutions PLC, according to The Independent newspaper. The deal could be valued is excess of $1 billion, with the company confirming that it has received “a number of unsolicited approaches.”

Serena Software Inc., a San Mateo, Calif.-based provider of change governance software, has agreed to acquire Pacific Edge Software Inc., a Bellevue, Wash.–based provider of project and portfolio management solutions. No financial terms were disclosed for the deal, which is expected to close later this month. Serena Software is a portfolio company of Silver Lake Partners, while Pacific Edge has raised over $44 million in VC funding from firms like Fluke Venture Partners, Northwest Venture Associates, Sequoia Capital, Stanford University, Foundation Capital, Dain Rauscher Corp. and Newbury Ventures.

Fonality Inc., a Culver City, Calif.-based provider of IP telephony systems for small and medium businesses, has acquired TrixBox, an online forum in which users can discuss open-source telephony and download Asterisk-based software. No financial terms were disclosed. Fonality raised $5 million in Series B funding last year led by Azure Capital Partners. 

JumpTap Inc., a Cambridge, Mass.-based provider of mobile search and advertising solutions, has raised $22 million in Series C funding. Valhalla Partners led the deal, and was joined by return backers General Catalyst Partners, BCE Capital and Redpoint Ventures. 

Lendia Inc., a Marlborough, Mass.-based provider of outsourced solutions to financial institutions that originate residential mortgages, has raised an undisclosed amount of private funding from 1848 Capital Partners.

ExlService Holdings Inc., a New York-based provider of business process outsourcing solutions, has set its proposed IPO terms to five million common shares being offered at between $10 and $12 per share. It plans to trade on the Nasdaq under proposed ticker symbol EXLS, with Citigroup and Goldman Sachs serving as co-lead underwriters. The company was acquired in 2002 from Conseco Inc., via a management buyout sponsored by Oak Hill Capital Partners and Financial Technology Ventures.

Xerox Corp. (NYSE: XRX) has agreed to acquire XMPie Inc., a New York–based provider of variable information software. The deal is valued at $54 million in cash, and is expected to close within 30 days. XMPie has raised around $9 million in VC funding from JVP. 

I-Flex Solutions ( Bombay : IFLX.BO) has completed its previously-announced acquisition of Mantas, a Herndon, Va.-based anti-money laundering and compliance software, from Safeguard Scientifics. The deal was valued at $122.6 million, and was be partially financed via a new $125 million investment in I-Flex from Oracle. 

Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV) has acquired SoloMio Corp., an Austin, Texas–based provider of integrated subscriber call management services. No financial terms were disclosed. SoloMio had raised over $26 million in VC funding from firms like Austin Ventures, Koch Ventures, Partech International, Gemplus and Techxas Ventures.

InvesTools Inc. (Nasdaq: IEDU) has agreed to acquire ThinkorSwim Group Inc., operator of an online brokerage platform. The deal is valued at approximately $340 million, including $170 million in cash and 19.1 million IEDU common shares (30% stake). To help fund the deal, InvesTools will receive a $125 million senior term loan and a $25 million revolving credit facility from JPMorgan. TwinkorSwim raised $22.5 million in VC funding in 2004 from Technology Crossover Ventures. 

DATAllegro, an Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based provider of data warehousing appliances, has raised $22.5 million in Series C funding. Jafco Ventures led the deal, and was joined by Focus Ventures and return backers Adams Capital Management, Intel Capital, Palomar Ventures and Venrock Associates.

Netadmin, a Sweden-based provider of management software for broadband operators, has raised SEK 44 million ($6.06 million) from Eqvitec. 

Dexterra Inc., a Bothell, Wash.-based provider of mobile workforce and field service software, has raised $6 million in additional Series D funding, according to a regulatory filing. This brings the round total to $18 million. Backers include Canaan Partners, Motorola Ventures, Intel Capital, SagusCapital and Sigma Partners.

SoonR Inc. of Campbell , Calif. has raised $6 million in Series A funding. Clearstone Venture Partners led the deal, and was joined by Intel Capital. The company enables mobile access to PC-based information and applications from any cell phone over any carrier network.

Boston Ventures has agreed to acquire a majority stake in En-Touch Systems Inc., a broadband services provider that serves the suburbs of Houston , Texas . No financial terms were disclosed. Sellers included several family trusts, while company management teamed with Boston Ventures. 

AppLabs Technologies, a Philadelphia-based software testing company, has acquired IS Integration, a UK-based IT and business solutions testing consultancy, for $36 million in cash. AppLabs has raised $17 million from Sequoia Capital India, while IS.

Art Technology Group Inc. (Nasdaq: ARTG) has agreed to acquire eStara Inc., a Reston , Va.–based provider conversion solutions for enhancing online sales and support initiatives. The deal is valued at up to $48.3 million, including $2 million in cash, a $6 million cash earn-out and around 15.3 million common shares of ATG stock. Estara raised $17 million in VC funding in 2000, including a $15 million infusion at a $25 million post-money valuation. Backers included Texas Pacific Group, One Equity Partners and JNet Ventures.

NetStreams Inc., an Austin, Texas-based provider of IP-based audio and video distribution technologies, has secured a total of $7.8 million in venture funding commitments from Austin Ventures, according to a regulatory filing. 

BEZ Systems Inc., a Boston-based provider of performance management software and analytics, has raised $7.5 million in Series C funding. Ascent Venture Partners led the deal, and was joined by return backers Brooke Private Equity Advisors, JMI Equity, the Massachusetts Technology Development Corporation and Velocity Equity Partners.

Eventful Inc., a San Diego-based operator of a global events website, has raised $7.5 million in Series B funding. Bay Partners led the deal, and was joined by return backers Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Omidyar Network and Esther Dyson. 

M5 Networks Inc., a New York-based provider of outsourced IP phone systems, has raised $7.75 million in Series A funding. Edison Venture Fund led the deal with $5 million, and was joined by Greycroft LLC and Milestone Venture Partners. 

Ekahau Inc., a provider of mobile positioning technology, has secured $7 million of a $10 million Series B round, according to a regulatory filing. Return backers include Nexit Ventures. The company was founded in Finland , and now has offices in Hong Kong, Saratoga , Calif. and Reston , Virginia . 

Managed Object Solutions Inc., a McLean, Va.-based provider of business service management solutions, has raised $7 million in Series F funding. Intel Capital was joined by return backers like Lazard Technology Partners, JMI, FT Ventures and Horizon Technology Finance. Managed Objects has raised around $44 million in total VC funding since its 1997 inception. 

Aztek Networks, a Boulder, Colo.-based provider of emergency stand-alone switching and IP gateway solutions, has raised $6.6 million in Series A funding co-led by Sequel Venture Partners and Grotech Capital Group. 

Jacked Inc., a startup focused on media interactivity solutions, has raised $500,000 in seed funding from Provenance Ventures. 

eInstruction Corp., a Denton, Texas–based provider of interactive response systems for the classroom, has acquired FSCreations Inc., a Cincinnati-based provider of educational software that assists teachers in test preparation and administration, lesson planning and student performance assessment. No financial terms were disclosed. EInstruction is a portfolio company of Chicago Growth Partners. 

MedSynergies Inc., an Irving, Texas-based provider of healthcare revenue cycle services, has merged with Practice Performance Inc., a Dallas-based healthcare management company focused on orthopedics, cardiology and OB/GYN. No financial terms were disclosed. MedSynergies is a portfolio company of Financial Technology Ventures.

Fluencee Inc., an Englewood, Colo.-based provider of RFID-enabled asset management solutions, has acquired Mobitrac Inc., a Chicago–based provider of transportation execution systems. No financial terms were disclosed. Fluencee has raised VC funding from DFJ Mercury Venture Partners and Illinois Ventures, while Mobitrac backers include Frazier Technology Ventures, Arch Development Partners, Illinois Ventures, Illinois Finance Authority, Mentor Management and U.S. Venture Partners.  

EMC Corp. confirmed earlier press reports that it will pay around $175 million to acquire Network Intelligence Inc., a Westwood, Mass.-based provider of software that converts enterprise data into compliance and security information. Network Intelligence has raised around $25 million in VC funding from firms like Ascent Venture Partners, Bain Capital Ventures, Egan Managed Capital, Castile Ventures and JMI Equity. In related news, EMC has completed its $2.1 billion buyout of RSA Security (Nasdaq: RSAS).

LifeSize Inc., an Austin, Texas-based provider of high-def videoconferencing systems, has raised $25 million in Series D funding. Lehman Brothers Venture Capital led the deal, and was joined by return backers Austin Ventures, Norwest Venture Partners, Redpoint Ventures, Sutter Hill Ventures and Pinnacle Ventures. The company has raised around $90 million in total VC funding since its 2003 inception. 

OpSource Inc., a Santa Clara, Calif.-based developer of enterprise infrastructure operations platforms, has raised $20 million in private equity, venture leasing and credit lines. Intel Capital led the Series C equity tranche, and was joined by return backers ComVentures, Artiman Ventures, and Key Venture Partners. Western Technology Investment provided the venture leasing, while Silicon Valley Bank extended an additional line of credit. 

SchoolNet Inc., a New York-based provider of software for helping public school districts improve efficiency and academic achievement, has raised $19 million in Series C funding. Backers include The Carlyle Group, Hamilton Lane and the New York City Investment Fund. 

WrenchHead.com Inc., a White Plains, N.Y.-based online retailer for automotive parts and accessories, has raised $17.88 million in new Series A funding, according to a regulatory filing. Backers include Polaris Venture Partners and MidMark Capital. WrenchHead.com has raised over $110 million in total VC funding since its 1999 inception, and last month acquired iCarz Inc. 

PeakStream Inc., a Redwood City, Calif.-based provider of software application platforms to the high-performance computing market, has raised $17 million in Series B funding. Foundation Capital led the deal, and was joined by return backers Sequoia Capital and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. 

Emphany Systems Inc., an East Palo Alto , Calif.-based developer of wireless sensor platform solutions, has raised $13.35 million in first-round funding, according to a regulatory filing. Backers include Sigma Partners, OVP Venture Partners, New Venture Partners and Intel Capital.

Multifamily Technology Solutions Inc. (a.k.a. MyNewPlace), a San Francisco-based Internet listing service for apartment building leasing, has raised $12 million in Series B funding. Sutter Hill Ventures and Split Rock Partners co-led the deal, and were joined by return backers like Trinity Ventures and United Dominion Realty Trust. 

Tremor Network, a New York-based online ad sales company focused on in-banner and video ads, has raised $8.4 million in first-round funding. Masthead Venture Partners and Canaan Partners co-led the deal. 

Liquid Machines Inc., a Waltham, Mass.–based provider of enterprise rights management software, has raised $7.5 million in Series C funding. Goldman Sachs led the deal, and was joined by return backers Atlas Ventures, Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Masthead Ventures. The company has raised around $27 million in total VC funding since its 2001 inception. 

Innotas Inc., an Oakland, Calif.-based provider of project portfolio management software, has raised $5.5 million in second-round funding. ArrowPath Venture Partners and ComVentures joined seed backer Cedar Circle . 

Marina Medical Billing Service Inc., a Cerritos, Calif.–based provider of revenue cycle management services for hospital emergency department physician groups, has completed a recapitalization. American Capital Strategies sponsored the deal, by providing a revolving credit facility, senior term loan, senior and junior subordinated debt and convertible preferred and common equity. No pricing terms were disclosed. 

EMC Corp. is planning to acquire Network Intelligence Inc., according to CNet. The deal could be worth up to $250 million, including an initial payment of between $170 million and $175 million. Network Intelligence is a Westwood, Mass.-based provider of software that converts enterprise data into compliance and security information. It has raised around $25 million in VC funding from firms like Ascent Venture Partners, Bain Capital Ventures, Egan Managed Capital, Castile Ventures and JMI Equity.

Command Information Inc., a Herndon, Va.-based provider of Internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) consulting and product development services to Fortune 1000 and government customers, has raised $16 million in Series B funding, according to a regulatory filing.  Paladin Homeland Security Fund was joined by return backers Novak Biddle Venture Partners, Carlyle Venture Partners and Blue Water Capital.

Aristos Logic Corp., a Foothills Ranch, Calif.-based provider of RAID storage processor technology, has raised $15 million in Series F funding, according to a regulatory filing. Return backers include JPMorgan Partners, TPG Ventures, Woodwide Fund and QTV Capital. Aristos Logic now has raised over $85 million in VC funding since its 2000 inception.

S5 Wireless, a Draper, Utah–based provider of wireless location technologies, has raised $11.5 million in Series B funding. Eagle River Holdings led the round, and was joined by return backers vSpring Capital and Wasatch Venture Fund.

AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) has agreed to acquire USinternetworking Inc., an Annapolis, Md.–based independent application service provider. The deal is valued at approximately $300 million in cash and assumed debt, and is expected to close next quarter. USi shareholders include Bain Capital, El Dorado Ventures and Grotech Capital Group. 

Signiant Inc., a Burlington, Mass.-based provider of distributed data management solutions, has raised $10 million in third-round funding. North Bridge Venture Partners led the deal, and was joined by return backers Boston Capital Ventures and Vimac Ventures.

TC³ Health Inc., a Costa Mesa, Calif.-based provider of a healthcare claims management solutions, has raised $10 million in Series C funding. JMI Equity led the deal, and was joined by return backer Ticonderoga Capital. 

Red 5 Studios Inc., an Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based developer of online multiplayer games, has secured $8.87 million of an $18.47 million Series A round, according to a regulatory filing. Benchmark Capital led the deal, with Benchmark’s Bill Gurley taking a board seat. 

Landslide Technologies Inc. (f.k.a. SalesGene), a Pittsburgh-based developer of sales workstyle management software, has raised around $3 million in Series A funding from Osage Ventures and Draper Triangle Ventures. 

SiliconSystems Inc., an Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based provider of storage technology, has raised $2 million in strategic Series C funding from Samsung Ventures. Other company shareholders include Miramar Venture Partners, Rustic Canyon Partners, Sandisk Corp. and Shepherd Ventures. 

CMWare Inc., a Princeton , N.J.-based provider of PC place-shifting solutions for mobile carriers, has raised an undisclosed amount of Series A funding from Updata Partners. 

Entrepreneur Partners has formed Terramar Media, a platform for acquisitions of direct marketing companies selling continuity products and services. Its first acquisition is Taramac, Fla.-based Magazine Services of America. The deal was financed via equity from Entrepreneur Partners principals Salem Shuchman and Bruce Newman, while leverage was provided by CapitalSource. No specific terms were disclosed. NIBC Principal Investments has sponsored a management buyout of BWise Holding BV, a provider of compliance and enterprise risk management software. No financial terms were disclosed. BWise is based in The Netherlands, with a U.S. office in New York.  

Time Inc., the magazine division of Time Warner Inc. (NYSE: TWX), said that it will sell 18 titles. The portfolio includes Popular Science, Parenting, Field & Stream and Outdoor Life.  The New York Times Co. (NYSE: NYT) has retained Goldman Sachs to advise it on a sale of its broadcast media group, which includes nine television stations. It is expected to report 2006 revenue of around $150 million.

Aspect Software Inc., a Westford, Mass.–based provider of contact center software solutions, has completed a recapitalization. The deal includes a $20 million second-lien term loan from American Capital Strategies and a revolving credit facility and senior term loans from a JPMorgan-led syndicate. Golden Gate Capital and Oak Investment Partners are majority owners of Aspect Software. 

ICF International Inc., a Fairfax, Va.-based provider of management, technology and policy consulting serving to the U.S. federal government, has set its proposed IPO terms to 4.67 million common shares being offered at between $14 and $16 per share. It plans to trade on the Nasdaq under ticker symbol ICFI, with UBS and Stifel Nicolaus serving as co-lead underwriters. CM Equity Partners holds an 88.64% pre-IPO position. 

Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) has agreed to acquire Mobilitec Inc., a San Mateo, Calif.-based provider of content management software for wireless service providers.No pricing terms of the all-cash transaction were disclosed. Mobiltec has raised over $28 million in VC funding since its 2000 inception, from firms like AIG Capital Partners, Mohr, Davidow Ventures, Novak Biddle Venture Partners, Canaan Partners, Duchossois Technology Partners and Lucent Venture Partners.  

NexTone Communications Inc., a Gaithersburg, Md.-based provider of session management solutions for VoIP, has raised $25 million in private debt funding from Columbia Partners Private Capital. It previously raised $67.5 million in VC funding from firms like One Equity Partners, BCE Capital, Core Capital, Mid-Atlantic Venture Funds and Safeguard Scientifics. The company has raised $67.5 million in total VC funding since its 1998 inception.  

Transforma Acquisition Corp., a New York-based blank check acquisition company focused on the tech, media and telecom market, has filed to raise $150 million via an IPO. It plans to trade on the AMEX under ticker symbol TAQ-U, with Banc of America Securities and CRT Capital Group serving as co-lead underwriters. Transforma management includes president and CEO Larry Lenhart, an executive-in-residence with Mohr, Davidow Ventures who previously served as president and CEO of Requisite Technology, Contivo and CAT Technology. Directors include: Daniel Burstein and Samuel Schwerin, co-founders of Millennium Technology Value Partners; former Apple Computer chief John Sculley and Dale Kutnick, senior VP and director of research at Gartner.

Internet and Software Deals of the Day

Handango Inc., a seven-year-old mobile phone content provider previously backed by a mere $18 million, has shifted into overdrive with a $60.5 million Series B round of funding to help take advantage of the increase in high-end devices that can handle its products. As part of the investment, veteran investor Sandy Miller has joined the company as its chairman. 

U.S. venture capital company Sequoia Capital and its Indian unit Sequoia Capital India have jointly invested $10 million in mobile technology company Bubble Motion, the company said. Bubble Motion said in a news release that it will use the capital to fund its research and development and boost marketing. The company, which has presence in the U.S. and India, has developed a short voice message service called BubbleTALK. 

Seeking Alpha Ltd., a Web-based publisher of stock market news and commentary, has raised an undisclosed amount in Series A financing from Benchmark Capital. The company also recently formed a partnership with Yahoo Inc. to add its content to the stock market pages of Yahoo Finance. New York-based Seeking Alpha compiles and publishes stock market opinion and analysis from contributors including money managers and financial professionals, bloggers and newsletters, as well as through direct submissions. The company also publishes conference call transcripts, IPO filings and summaries of news reports from other outlets. The company’s editors select, edit and categorize submissions before they run on the site. 

QuickPlay Media, Toronto-based provider of mobile video and rich-media services, has raised US$12 million in Series B funding. General Catalyst Partners led the deal, and was joined by return backer JL Albright Ventures. 

Freewebs.com, a Silver Springs, Md.-based provider of do-it-yourself website publishing solutions, has raised $11 million in Series A funding co-led by Columbia Capital and Novak Biddle Venture Partners. 

Bivio Networks Inc., a Pleasanton, Calif.-based provider of network appliance platforms, has raised $8.5 million in its second round of VC funding since a 2005 recap. Silver Creek Ventures led the deal, and was joined by return backers Goldman Sachs, InterWest Partners, Storm Ventures and Venrock Associates. 

Enure Networks Inc., an Israel-based provider of broadband home network environment automation, has raised $8 million in Series A funding. Elron Electronic Industries Ltd. led the deal, and was joined by Carmel Ventures. 

FitLinxx, a Stamford, Conn.-based provider of fitness data tracking technology, has raised $4.1 million in Series B funding. Ironwood Capital led the deal, and was joined by company management and return backer North Atlantic Capital. 

Expresso Fitness, a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based supplier of interactive software for Internet-enabled cardio fitness systems, has raised $4 million from existing shareholder Enterprise Partners Venture Capital. It had secured $4.5 million from EPVC in July 2005. 

Infinity Channel Networks Inc., a Dallas-based provider of processing solutions for Internet video content, has secured $3.56 million of a $7.06 million Series A round, according to a regulatory filing. Backers include Hunt Ventures, ATA Ventures, Vesbridge Partners and El Dorado Ventures. 

AdRoll Inc., a San Francisco-based provider of online video advertising services, has secured $605,000 of a $1 million Series A round from True Ventures and Colin Wiel Investments, according to a regulatory filing. The company is run by Tod Sacerdoti, a former executive with Plaxo and Spoke Software.

StreamerNet Corp., a Leesburg, Va.-based provider of online video streaming technologies, has raised a total of $1.5 million in angel funding. It also is in the midst of raising a $5 million Series A round of institutional funding. 

Seeking Alpha, a New York-based online publisher of stock market opinion and analysis, has raised an undisclosed amount of venture funding from Benchmark Capital

Univision Communications Inc. (NYSE: UVN) may not be entirely off the auction block, according to today’s New York Times. The Spanish-language broadcaster’s shareholders are expected to vote later this month on a $36.25 per share offer from Haim Saban, Madison Dearborn Partners, Providence Equity Partners, Texas Pacific Group and Thomas H. Lee Partners. But today’s report suggests that the losing consortium – which includes Grupo Televisa, Bain Capital and Cascade Investments – is considering a rival $38 per share bid.

BSA Sales LLC, a subsidiary of Synnex Corp. (NYSE: SNX), has acquired Concentrix Corp., a Rochester, N.Y.-based provider of call center, database analysis and print-on-demand services to customers in the transportation, publishing, banking, healthcare and high tech industries. No financial terms were disclosed, except that Concentrix had 2005 revenue of approximately $15 million. Concentrix had raised just over $15 million in total VC funding from firms like North Atlantic Capital, Boston Millennia Partners, FA Technology Ventures, Onodaga Venture Capital and Rand Capital Corp.  

Swisscom Fixnet Ltd. has acquired Betty Holding AG, a Switzerland-based provider of interactive television solutions. No financial terms were disclosed. Betty had been backed by Target Partners and CornerstoneCapital.  

MLM Information Services LLC, an IT acquisition platform backed by Warburg Pincus has acquired Tax Compliance Inc., a San Diego-based provider of corporate property tax compliance software. No financial terms were disclosed. MLM is managed by and Mason Slaine, former CEO of both Thomson Financial and Information Holdings Inc. (sold to Thomson Corp. in 2004).  

OneAccess, a France-based provider of enterprise access routers and professional multi-play IP devices, has acquired the Telindus Access Products (TAP) division of the Belgacom Group. No financial terms were disclosed. OneAccess shareholders include Innovacom, T-com Venture, CDC Entreprises Innovation, Tempo Capital Partners, AGF Private Equity and CIC Finance.

WebMethods, Inc., a publicly traded business integration and optimization software company, said it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire privately-held Infravio, Inc. for approximately $38 million in cash. Infravio provides service-oriented architecture, or SOA, registry and governance products. SOA governance enforces the policies and procedures that determine how developers, IT staff and business users utilize systems. WebMethods plans to integrate Infravio’s products into its Fabric product suite. Cupertino, Calif.-based Infravio has approximately 65 employees, including 50 developers in its offshore development facility in Chennai, India.  

Linux NetworX Inc., a Bluffdale, Utah-based supercomputing company, has raised $37 million in third-round funding. Lehman Brothers and Canaccord Adams were joined by return backers Oak Investment Partners and Tudor Ventures. 

FTI Consulting Inc. (NYSE: FCN) has agreed to acquire FD International Ltd. (a.k.a. Financial Dynamics), a UK-based business communications firm controlled by Advent International. The deal is valued at approximately $260 million, including $215 million in cash, $20 million in notes and deferred purchase obligations and $25 million of restricted FTI stock. To finance the acquisition of FD, FTI plans to offer $215 million of senior unsecured notes.  

SpikeSource Inc., a Redwood City, Calif.-based open source IT infrastructure company, has raised $21 million in Series B funding, according to a regulatory filing. PE Week Wire reported a $15 million first close earlier this year. Duff Ackerman & Goodrich was joined by return backers Fidelity Ventures and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. 

Bubble Motion Pte Ltd., an India-based provider of short-voice messaging services, has raised $10 million in venture funding from Sequoia Capital and Sequoia Capital India. 

Hi-G-Tek Inc., a Rockville, Md.-based provider of RFID products for monitoring and controlling high-value physical assets and sensitive materials, has raised $10 million in its first round of pure venture capital funding. L Capital Partners led the deal, and was joined by Battelle Ventures and Battelle affiliate Innovation Valley Partners. 

Provade Inc., a San Mateo, Calif.-based provider of managed procurement solutions, has raised $5.2 million in Series C funding, according to a regulatory filing. Backers include Altos Vetures and ZAD Global Fund. 

Vestar Capital Partners has agreed to acquire MediMedia USA Inc. from The Carlyle Group, Apax Partners and Cinven. No financial terms were disclosed. MediMedia USA was the core of a broader package of healthcare and business publications activities acquired from Vivendi Universal Publishing in April 2002 by Carlyle Group, Apax and Cinven. 

DirecPath, a Dallas-based company formed earlier this year by Hicks Holdings and The DirecTV Group Inc., has agreed to acquire Apartment MediaWorks LLC, an Atlanta-based provider of pay television, broadband Internet and related services to multiple-dwelling unit and gated community residents in the southeastern United States. No financial terms were disclosed.

Promptu Inc., a Menlo Park, Calif.-based provider of voice-powered search and navigation services for mobile operators, has raised $11.6 million in new venture capital. Steelpoint Capital Partners led the deal, and was joined by return backers like Lauder Partners.  

Venafi Inc., a Draper, Utah-based provider of enterprise encryption management, has secured $7 million of a $10.5 million Series C round (including convertible notes/warrants) led by Foundation Capital, according to a regulatory filing.  

KryptIQ Corp., a Hillsboro, Ore.-based provider of middleware platforms for automating healthcare workflows, has raised $6.57 million in Series C funding, according to a regulatory filing. Return backers include Shelter Capital Partners, SmartForest Ventures and Voyager Capital.  

Monitor110 Inc., a New York-based developer of real-time financial intelligence solutions, has raised $5 million in Series B funding. Backers include Draper Fisher Jurvetson, DFJ Gotham Ventures and Acadia Woods Partners.

Xaware Inc., a Colorado Springs, Colo.-based provider of lifecycle management solutions for Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), has raised $3 million in Series B-1 funding, according to a regulatory filing. Return backers include Gefinor Ventures, ITU Ventures, Sequel Venture Partners and vSpring Capital. The company had raised a $10 million Series B round in late 2004 at a $23.8 million post-money valuation.  

Values of n Inc., a Portland, Ore.-based startup from O’Reilly Media CTO Rael Dornfest, has raised $510,000 in Series A funding, according to a regulatory filing. Sherpalo Ventures and Magnus Ventures participated.   AdMob Inc., a Menlo Park, Calif.-based operator of a global online mobile ad network, has raised an undisclosed amount of Series A funding from Sequoia Capital. It also announced two new board members: Jim Goetz of Sequoia Capital and Maynard Webb, former COO of eBay.  

IBX, a Sweden-based provider of e-purchasing solutions, has acquired Portum AG, a German provider of Web-based sourcing solutions. No financial terms were disclosed. IBX has raised VC funding from B-business Partners, Ericsson Business Innovation, Novo AS and SEB. Portum was a portfolio company of Siemens Venture Capital and Innotech Ltd.   

Six Apart Ltd., a San Francisco-based provider of blogging software and services, has acquired Rojo Networks Inc., a San Francisco-based provider of newsreader services. No financial terms were disclosed. Six Apart has raised VC funding from August Capital, Focus Ventures and Intel Capital. Rojo was backed by TPG Ventures and BV Capital.

Internet and Software Deals of the Day

Liquid Engines.com has raised $5.5 million in a third tranche of Series C funding a little more than a year after some of the same investors put $4 million in the company coffers. Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Liquid Engines has less than twenty customers currently using its tax management software, Spertell said. Liquid Engines sells its software either as a hosted service or through a traditional licensed model. Around 70% of the company’s customers use the hosted service with the remaining 30% preferring to install the software behind corporate firewalls.

Motionbox seals $4.2M Series A round and adds its name to a long list of venture-backed video sharing startups. The company closed its Series A round recently, thanks to a syndicate of investors including Canaan Partners, SAS Investors and Japan-based Itochu Corp. New York-based Motionbox has developed a video sharing service designed to help consumers easily sift through video to find and share specific moments in a digital video. The company’s technology includes tagging features, editing capabilities and tools to create mash-ups.

OrderMotion Inc. a provider of on-demand order transaction software for direct marketers, has raised $8.5 million in a Series B round of financing, according to a company press release. The round was led by Updata Partners, with participation from previous investor Capital Resource Partners. OrderMotion was spun out from Capital Resource Partners’ portfolio company CommercialWare Inc. when the Natick, Mass.-based CommercialWare was acquired in February by Datavantage Corp. for $13.2 million. OrderMotion software has been used by over 300 brands including GoldSpeed.com, Ronco Inventions, Sundance Spas Inc., e-Diamonds and Lacrosse Footwear Inc., according to a company statement.

Serendipity Technologies Inc., a provider of enterprise infrastructure software, has received $5.1 million in a Series A round of funding. The funding was led by Genesis Partners and included participation from Index Ventures, as well as individual participation by Shlomo Kramer, co-founder of Checkpoint Software Technologies Ltd. According to a company statement, the proceeds from the funding will be used to further Serendipity’s Enterprise 2.0 software offering, which is designed to harness advanced Internet technology to solve business needs.

Placemark Investments Inc., an overlay manager for the investment industry, has raised $10 million in new venture capital. IDG Ventures Boston led the deal, and was joined by return backers Ascent Venture Partners, North Hill Ventures and RBC Technology Ventures. Placemark has offices in both Dallas and Wellesley , Massachusetts.

Sennari Inc., a Cupertino, Calif.-based provider of provider of customer loyalty solutions for mobile entertainment providers, has raised $10 million in Series C funding. Mayfield led the deal, and was joined by return backers UV Partners, Blacksmith Capital and Novak Biddle Venture Partners.

Mobixell Networks, a Wellesley, Mass.based provider of multimedia technologies and business solutions for mobile operators, service and content providers, has raised $8 million in new VC funding. Intel Capital led the deal, and was joined by return backers Apax Partners, TempoPark fund and CTI Capital. Mobixell has raised $23 million in total VC funding since its 2000 inception.

Medium Inc., a Boulder, Colo.-based communications software startup, has raised $5.275 million in Series A funding from Spark Capital and Appian Ventures.

Handmark Inc., a Kansas City-based provider of mobile content solutions, has raised $5 million in Series B funding. Motorola Ventures led the deal, and was joined by return backers Apax Partners, Borealis Ventures, Village Ventures and Hanna Capital Management.

Instajob Inc., an Austin, Texas-based developer of job recruitment software, has raised $2 million in Series A funding, according to a regulatory filing. Sevin Rosen Funds and Rho Ventures participated.
